Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem to be set in a modern real world
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem is currently under development at Intelligent Systems, but little is known about it. After a short announcement during last January Nintendo Direct, the game basically disappeared, and it was a no-show at E3 2013. In a recent interview with the magazine Hobby Consolas, Hitoshi Yamagami (creator of Panel de Pon and in charge of supervising all Intelligent Systems projects) revealed something previously unknown: the setting of the game. Here the part of interest:
HC: What can you say about that crossover between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei?
HY: For a long time, I wanted to create a FE on ours times, on the real world. Imagine a Pegasus that comes from the sky and lands on the Building 109 of Shibuya, Tokyo. I always though that would be incredible. At the same time, I know it’s hard because of how FE is. I visited many companies to express these ideas. When I went to Atlus, I was told that Shin Megami Tensei together with Fire Emblem is what I wanted. So, I soon said that to Intelligent Systems and started this very special collaboration. Oops! I shouldn’t say that the game takes place in the real world. We haven’t announced it, right?
So it seems that Fire Emblem characters will travel across time, from a fantasy setting to a modern one, typical of the Shin Megami Tensei series and its post-apocalyptic environments. It is not new, though, the interest of finding new ideas of this kind; some months ago, during an Iwata Asks, some members of Intelligent Systems said that one of the first ideas for Fire Emblem: Awakening was a Martian setting.
To set the ground for the crossover, Nintendo of America started a new eShop promotion: buying both Fire Emblem: Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei IV, it is possible to receive a $30 credit.
